R16 Korea UK Champs – Korea Popping & Locking Eliminations R16 launched to the World last year with an awesome competition featuring 16 of the best Worldwide crews competing in both showcases and battles. This year the format had been widened to incorporate the Locking pairs and Popping solo qualifiers for the UK b-Boy Champs with T.I.P team already returning as defending b-boy crew Champions.
The Popping & locking comps were staged outside the main arena and with the Olympic stadium as a backdrop the scene was set for 2 days of fierce battling. Day 1 saw the Locking pairs take the stage and with plenty of local rivalry, it didn’t take long before the competition got pretty heated with each of the 60 pairs stepping up their level and delighting the crowd. Great dress sense, acrobatics and dance routines helped all female pair Lock & Loll take the win and book their place at the World finals. The pair were overcome by emotion and took a few minutes to compose themselves for the presentation and photos by the hoards of photographers. Day 2 topped all expectations when over 300 dancers entered the competition. Registration had to be started early just to accommodate all who had turned up and the first round gave each dancer just 30 seconds to impress the judges and secure one of 16 places for the battle. With the huge field now whittled down, the competition started in earnest. The standard was very high and the musicality and ability of the Poppers had the crowd cheering at each trick and punctuation to the music. In the end Pop Kun emerged victorious and secured his place to London!
