Kawasaki, Saturday 3rd August 2008

The UK B-Boy Championships, Japan eliminations is the longest running qualifying event of the World Seres & is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the World Series calander! The Japanese championships has grown so big that it, in turn, needs a series of qualifiying events in order to deal with the vast amount of crews & individual dancers that want to compete for that ultimate of prizes - a place at the World Finals in London. The competition is always fierce & the quality, exceptionaly high. Japans biggest B-Boy event just seems to get better every year & this years event did not disappoint!

If there was an award for the most consistent crowd favourites at the Champs then Japan would have won it hands down. That said, the Japanese crews have also been under achievers since Spartanic Rockers took the title in 1998. Back then they were the new kids on the block and introduced amazing routines and teamwork to the signature crew battle. In recent years though, they have promised much, bringing incredible power move combinations (as with b-boy Kaku’s head spins, where he then pushes up onto his hands while still rotating and achieving over 30 turns!) but have lacked that vital teamwork dynamic and battle strategy. Step up, Found Nation Crew who took the Japan Elimination with just such a team ethic and battle plan and saw them defeat the all-star team Star Dust in a thrilling final.

Unlike their rivals Found Nation had been here before. They were runners up or worse 3 years in a row and had no intention of failing to take the main prize this year. We hooked up with them before the event, training hard at an all night practice spot beneath a huge office block in the centre of Tokyo.” We have improved in every way” one member said “and we have prepared for this battle solidly for 4 months”. In a filmed piece for the new TV series following the Champs Worldwide eliminations, Found Nation showed off some of their routines and boasted after “We have over 40 more like that”  In an emotional winning ceremony, the crew members broke down as their hands were held aloft to give them a deserved 3-0 decision. Speaking to the crowd another of crew said he had left school to train for this battle and now all the hard work had paid off. Event organiser and original Spartanic Rockers member added, “the hard work has just begun!”

Hi Oh-kyung Jang,

How are doing?

I was with the UK guys out in Japan, seeing as you were our resident expert out there I was just wondering if you knew the names of all the guys (and girl) in Foundnation Crew and the correct spellings if possible, it would be a massive help if you did

Hope you're well!!

Andy

I participated in the event as a translator and press assistant. It was amazing!!! Everyone displayed more than 100% of what they've possessed!
To name a few who impressed me: Kenzo from Shuffle Boogie (Locking), Bitter Box Sisters(Locking, female photos above), Tee Boo (Locking), Gucchon (Poppin), P [tee](Poppin).
From Breaking side (individual names):
a b-girl from Excollaboration, Golf (ITAZURA), Sho-hey(ITAZURA), Wing(Foundation Crew), Tsugu(Foundation Crew, a bboy with thumbs up in the photo), Taisuke(All Area).

I hope to see them again, moreover, more often!!!

Good Luck everyone!
